The Secret To Your Child's Smooth-Sailing Kindergarten School Photos

It’s hard to help your child prepare for their kindergarten school photos. For some, this may be your child’s first ever time getting their photo taken professionally which can be quite daunting. To help you make your child’s kindergarten school photos go as smooth as it can be, here are some things our kindergarten photographers at Fotek suggests you do:

Posing

Posing should come naturally to kids. That’s not to say that kids will strike the pose you want them to but they will pose the way they want to. Even if it is not the one they practiced, it’s not necessarily bad that they come up with their own poses. It is suggested from photographers that you do not put such heavy emphasis on teaching your kids poses because doing what they want brings out their more authentic self. Some things you should just give your child free rein to do, posing is one of them.

Good night’s sleep = happy kid

If there is a formula you can use to increase the likelihood of your child having a smooth school photo day, it’s this: a good night's sleep equals happy kid. Regardless if this is their first time getting their photo taken at school or they're last, a good rest the night before is crucial because it makes them more energised on the day. Also, photographers usually take close-up photos so getting some rest makes them look lively and bright.

Comfort is key

We know getting your photos professionally taken is special but we can almost guarantee you that picking out fancy clothes with different colours and accessories will not make the photo better. Sometimes, simple is better. So we recommend that your child feels comfortable with what they are wearing on the day and that the colour of the clothes is simple. An easy way to know if your child is comfortable with their clothes is having them choose the night before so that they can try it on or at least know what they’ll be wearing the next day. You don’t want to leave it for the morning because things will get more complicated than they should.

What you can do?

Fortunately, there are things you can do to ensure things goes well. For starters, remember the date of your child’s photo day. As silly as this may sound, forgetting the date happens more often than you think because you find yourself worrying about other things leading up to the day. A good way to remember the date is to put it on your calendar or stick the photo envelope on your fridge. You should also set some time aside to look through the photography packages that the school offers. Preparing things that are in your control in advance just makes it easier for you and your child on the day.
