Focus On The Right Details

Professional childcare photography is separated from amateur work by many elements of the final product – the equipment utilised, the settings used, and most importantly, the framing of the shot. When it comes down to it, no matter how amazing and well-calibrated your equipment is, you need to be able to frame your shot properly to make sure it looks amazing when you're finished. Thankfully, that is an art form that our team is familiar with, and we can pass that knowledge on to you.

Listen To Marie Kondo And Simplify Your Photos
Real life is chaotic. There's always something happening, there are one hundred and one things to focus on, and there seems to be a slightly persistent droning noise just outside your focus that no one else can hear.

Don't bring that chaos into your photography. Instead, let your children shine front and centre by focusing on the right details. Instead of taking a wide shot of your child's messy playroom, maybe instead take a closeup of their face, or use a wide aperture lens to blur out the background so that it doesn't distract the viewer.

The Eyes Are The Window To Great Photography
There's nothing worse than a pair of eyes that are just slightly out of focus. If you're looking for the secret to a fantastic photo of your kid, the easiest change to make for the biggest improvement, this is it. It's not only important that the eyes are kept in focus, but it can also be critical that you do something interesting with them, like capturing the reflections they capture. If you're struggling to create those reflections organically, you might want to try taking your kid outside on an overcast day and have them look up at the sky – by the time you're done taking pictures, their eyes may as well be swimming in little pools of starlight.

Don't Be Afraid To Shake It Up
With all that said, these are just tips to create a fantastic, conventional portrait of your child. If you want to think outside of the box, you might be able to create something really artsy that your child will love when they're older. Try focusing on something abstract, like their hands or their hat, or focus in on another detail of the scene and have them be more of a background object. If photography is an art, it's important that the artist feels free to experiment and find their own style – the results will speak for themselves.
